We arrived back home on August 1st and spent time getting reacquainted with
Ajijic after a two and one-half years in Houston. The weather was great, which is
what brought us back in 2008.
We rented an apartment from our friend, Loretta Downs. The
lease of our casa ran through September 1st. Here is the view from our kitchen
window into Loretta's courtyard.
The apartment is in the heart of the village. This picture was
taken on the street looking up into the foothills and into the mountains that
separate Ajijic with Guadalajara.
June through September is considered the rainy season. It
rains mostly in the evening or through the night. This time, it rained in
buckets.
While the weather brought us to Ajijic, our friends kept us
coming back. Here is Chris and Barbara Logan having lunch after
attending Open Circle.
Sister Maureen celebrated her birthday with lots of friends.
It was exciting to be with her along with having dance music that ran into the wee
hours of the evening (9 pm).
We joined Brian and Sue Walsh, our renters for a year for lunch. They
found another long-term rental, across the street and two houses away. We look
forward to spending time with them as new friends!
The apartment was two
blocks from the Lake Chapala Society, which we both volunteered at. The
grounds had a makeover making it an awesome botanical garden.
This picture was taken on the far west side of Lake
Chapala in a town called Jocotepec. Their Malecon had expanded with tons of
vendors selling food and trinkets.
Our renters moved out a week before their lease expired,
which gave us time to move in gradually. They left it in perfect condition!
When plants start growing out of the wall, you know it is time
to paint the house. We plan to have it painted the same color.
Aurora, our housekeeper since 2014, helped maintain the casa
every other week while we were in Houston. She is a hard worker and a delight
to have around. We have learned much about the Mexican culture from her!
In addition to moving, we bought this 2023 Kia Rio 5-door
hatchback. Our old Honda served us well, but it was time to say farewell. We
finally got our Mexican driver's license as well.
This wall is part of an elementary school and had a complete makeover with artworks, including these tiles that
is part
of a fundraiser. The school is near our home.
While some expats don't like the "manana" attitude of Mexico, we
find it amusing. While dining at a local restaurant, we saw this sign
which says it all!
